Daire Flock from Tallaght will be competing in the Clio Cup GB from the 1st June. As part of the development of the 2024 RS Renault Clio Gen 5, Daire will compete in the first round of The Britcar Trophy Endurance Championship at Donnington Park in Leicestershire on 30th March.
The Britcar Trophy Endurance Championship is the ideal testing ground for Daire to familiarize himself with the 2024 RS Renault Clio Gen 5. The format of the races gives ample time in the car, with each race been 50 minutes long and 2 races on the same day.
After practice Daire was looking at a top 5 place in his class, and this was the expedition going into qualifying for him and the team. With various set up changes during and post practice Daire qualified on pole position for both races, surprising himself and the team with the pace of the car.
Race 1- starting with a rolling start with Daire heading his class, setting a fast pace to pull a commanding lead, before the mandatory pit stop. The second half of the race Daire was able to maintain a 26 second lead to the chasing pack to win his first race in RS Renault Clio Gen 5 and the first driver in the UK to win in the Gen 5 Clio.
Race 2 – was a mirror of race 1 with Daire pulling a commanding lead to win by 1 lap.
Daire said “I am happy with the development of the car as it’s brand-new car, both the team and I are still getting an understanding of the car set up. To win both races and be the 1st Irishman to win in this car makes me extremely happy. I would like to thank my sponsors, Reactive Welding, Glenhaze distribution, Gorilla Design and Rygor Group who have come onboard this year”.
Daire now travels to Snetterton Circuit, in Norfolk, to continue with the development as Championship leader in The Britcar Trophy Endurance Championship on the 14th of April, live streamed on BARC live YouTube channel.
